Sotheby’s Moves Into ‘New World’ of Digital Art and NFTs

Charles Stewart, CEO of Sotheby’s, has announced a partnership that will see the top auction house hold a sale of NFT-based digital art from anonymous artist Pak.

“We wanted to partner with Pak because we are entering a whole new world with digital art, and we felt it was important to work with an artist who has been active in the community for many years,” Sotheby’s says in a statement. “While we can’t yet reveal full details of what’s to come, we want to be true to the democratic spirit of crypto and will be working together to attract as many people as possible to take part in this next adventure, so prepare for some surprises.”

Sotheby’s is the latest auction house to join the crypto art space. The announcement comes days after British auction house Christie’s sold popular digital artist Beeple’s 5000-day collection for nearly $70 million.
